Introduction to Robotic Total Station for Layout: This 4-day 30-hour course introduces ironworkers to modern layout instruments and practices using the robotic total station. Participants will learn the basics of how to perform layout using robotic total station instruments manufactured by Trimble and Leica. The course will consist of instrument demonstrations followed by hands-on practice and coaching. Please review the prerequisites and important information below to determine whether you qualify to participate in this course.
PREREQUISITES: Participants must have:
- Experience as a journeyman ironworker (NOTE: this course is not appropriate for apprentices who do not meet the prerequisites)
- Completed the Layout Instruments for Ironworkers course or have experience performing jobsite layout and calculations
- Completed the courses: Intro to Blueprint Reading; Basic Math for Ironworkers; and, Geometry, Trigonometry and Metrics.
- Working knowledge of basic trigonometry and math.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- We strongly suggest that you bring a Windows-based laptop computer to the course. You will be given access to a total station simulator on your computer that you can use to practice when you are not using the total station machine. The laptop must be Windows-based. The simulator will not work on any Apple or iOS device.
- This course covers a basic introduction to modern layout instruments; the course does not provide detailed or advanced use of instruments.
- This course does not provide certification on the use of the layout instruments; however, participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating they participated in the course.
- This course will take place in an outdoor setting. Very little time will be spent indoors in a classroom setting. Participants should wear appropriate clothing to accommodate different or adverse weather conditions and should be prepared to work outside all day.
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Drinks will be provided.
- The class is scheduled from 8 AM until 4:30 PM each day. However, the class may run long; therefore, 4:30 PM is an estimated completion time each day.
