IWEA is involved in the local community as well as on a regional and national level. The NEWS section is updated on a regular basis. Our goal is to keep viewers aware of our activities, to highlight current events that reflect the organization and keep our membership informed.

Mr. Jason Trypus of Abate-Irwin, Inc. for his work on several Industrial Projects at either AK Steel, Butler, PA., or at Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, PA.

IN PROJECT CATAGORY 5,000 -12,000 MAN / HOURS

Mr. Scott Marshall of G. Kidd, Inc. for his work on the installation of structural and miscellaneous steel utilized in the conversion of five large warehouse type buildings to Loft Apartments at the Old Heinz Plant on Pittsburgh's North Side.

IN PROJECT CATAGORY 12,000 - 20,000 MAN / HOURS

Mr. Harvey Meyer and Mr. Don Zahorchak of Alvarez,Inc for their work on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission contract for the Southern Beltway, Findlay Connector Project regarding new bridges and interchanges at the Pittsburgh International Airport. This project was highlighted as the # 4 project listed in the "Top 10 Roads and Bridges for 2005" as published in Roads and Bridges Magazine.

IN PROJECT CATAGORY OVER 20,000 MAN / HOURS

Mr. William Kesneck of Minnotte Contracting for his supervision of maintenance and industrial work at Allegheny Ludlum's Plant in Midland, PA..

SPECIAL AWARD AND RECOGNITION

This award was given to Mr. Mark Beatty and Mr. Dave Schadel of Century Steel Erectors, Company for there work in supervising the planning, hoisting, moving and setting of a new MRI unit at the new BST Building which is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). "ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING AND DINNER / PNC PARK 2005"



"Over 125 individuals attended this years Ironworker Employers Association annual Meeting and Dinner held on February 2, 2005 at the Home Plate Club located at PNC Park. This years special guest and speaker was Mr. Donald T. Cunningham Jr., Secretary of General Services for the State of Pennsylvania. Mr. Cunningham provided a detailed explanation of a new delivery system that DGS is pursuing titled Best Value Contracting. The Association Membership was particularly interested in this method of bidding since they believe it will have a positive impact on the way they approach and bid DGS projects.

Attendees at this years event were were association members as well Officers from Iron Worker Local 3, Pittsburgh, PA and Local 772 Clearfield, PA Iron Worker International Representatives and Pittsburgh Building Trades Officials. This event provides an excellent opportunity for our association membership to network with these representatives but more importantly with those Owner / Customer representatives who attended and for whom our membership has worked for over the past year.

Mr. Dennis Chew and Mr. Donald House both of Century Steel Erectors Co. -Dravosburg, PA. for their work on the BARGE UNLOADER at U S Steel's Clairton Works
 
>>IN PROJECT CATEGORY 12,000 > 24,000 MAN / HOURS :
 
Mr. Fran Frankovich of Stevens Painton Corporation- Cannonsburg, PA for his work on two projects at A K Steel and one at Allegheny Ludlum Steel.
 
>>IN PROJECT CATEGORY over 24,000 MAN / HOURS :
 
Mr. Ralph Croushore of Abate-Irwin, Inc. - Eighty Four, PA for his work on The   Eastview Terrace Apartments at Penn State University in State College, PA as well as an office building at The SouthSide Works in Pittsburgh, PA.
 
In addition several Honorable Mention Awards were presented to Dick Corporation, Abate-Irwin Inc., and Advantage Steel and Construction.
